One independent government agency is the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). According to Article 74(1) of the United Republic of Tanzania’s 1977 Constitution, it was founded in 1993. His Excellency Ali Hassan Mwinyi, the president of the United Republic of Tanzania at the time, established a commission in 1991, with the late Hon. Francis L. Nyalali serving as its chairman. That Commission was tasked with gathering public opinion regarding the continuation of the one-party system. Article 3 of the United Republic of Tanzania’s 1977 Constitution was changed to establish Tanzania as a multi-party state in response to the Nyalali Commission’s recommendations.
Tanzania’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has offered temporary polling station operator openings for the 2025 General Elections.
