Job location: Nyarugusu and Nduta Refugee Camps.

The Work Days and Hours: Monday through Sunday, 40-48 hours per week based on duty roster. Weekends, night shifts, and public holidays may all be included.

Travel is required for up to 10%.

The Job Summary:

To provide obstetrical care to pregnant women and their babies, including follow-ups before, during, and after delivery, in accordance with MTI obstetrical and reproductive health protocols, universal hygiene, and newborn care requirements, under the supervision of a specialized doctor. The goal is to protect the health of moms and newborns while also preventing postpartum problems.

 

 

The Job responsibilities:

  • To provide comprehensive maternal and child services to mothers throughout and after pregnancy, including complication management and referral for high-risk pregnancies.
  • Be responsible for delivering babies, preparing birth certificates, and monitoring the overall health of moms and newborns.
  • Determine the possibility of referring pregnant women from the Traditional Birth Attendant (TBA) to the OPD/MCH for medical examination or problematic deliveries.
  • To counsel moms (mothers)about prenatal (pregnancy) and postpartum care, such as optimal nursing practices, bathing, and bottle preparation.
  • To participate in primary healthcare activities such as health education, family planning, birthing preparation, HCT services, nutrition programs, and mother-to-child transmission prevention at the health center and in the community.
  • To provide primary healthcare to women of reproductive age in accordance with the Basic Package of Health Services.
  • To provide non-surgical family planning options as well as surgical guidance.
  • Make sure that babies are inoculated according to the timetable.
  • Help doctors and clinicians manage sexual violence cases.
  • To monitor medicine and equipment usage during maternity activities and notify managers of restocking needs.
  • To ensure that biomedical equipment is in good working order by following user instructions and guidelines, performing cleaning and minor maintenance, and notifying supervisors of any malfunctions.
  • Ensure that hygiene and sterilization standards, including universal precautions, are met.
  • Follow the professional and MTI Codes of Conduct when conducting medical practices to ensure the highest degree of integrity and ethics.
  • To ensure that the data obtained is accurate, and provide reports on time.
  • To support the safety of program participants and personnel by creating an awareness environment and according to the Medical Teams’ code of conduct standards. Protection against sexual exploitation and abuse, protection for children and vulnerable adults, and harassment-free employment regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

The Education, licensing, and certifications:

  • A minimum diploma in midwifery from an approved School of Nursing and Midwifery is necessary.
  • A bachelor’s degree in midwifery is an extra advantage.
  • A valid practicing license is required.

 

 

The Experience:

  • Two (2) years of midwifery experience are required.
  • The experience with international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) is advantageous.

 

 

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of professional midwifery concepts, processes, and practices.
  • The knowledge of medical and non-medical waste disposal methods.
  • The knowledge of hygiene management and infection control protocols.

 

 

The Skills:

  • The skilled at evaluating and treating patients using professional midwifery care concepts and methods.
  • Superb interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Excellent knowledge of both written and spoken English.

 

 

The abilities:

  • The ability to respect patient confidentiality and follow the professional code of conduct.
  • The ability to treat all patients and staff with dignity and without bias.
  • The ability to deliver high-quality, ethical, and compassionate care that prioritizes the patient’s needs.
  • The ability to keep detailed records with excellent precision.
  • The ability to adapt and manage stress.
  • Capability to support MTI Calling while adhering to the MTI Code of Conduct.

 

 

Physical conditions:

The Physical requirements.

  • Personal computers, databases, and digital platforms are frequently used, as well as other office productivity equipment such as a copy machine and computer printer.
  • The frequent communication and information exchange with colleagues and individuals of concern necessitates the ability to speak, hear, convey, and express oneself.
  • The frequent near eyesight and the capacity to shift focus.
  • The occasionally climbs or descends stairs, steps, or ladders.
  • The occasionally roam around a workplace to use file cabinets, office machinery, meet with coworkers, and so on.
  • The employee must periodically lift and/or move up to 50 kilograms.
  • The occasional to frequent travel across difficult or steep terrain, either by motor vehicle or foot.

 

 

The Working Environment:

  • The noise level at work is normally moderately quiet.
  • The employee may be expected to go to remote places of the world where there are potential health dangers and risks, limited sanitary facilities, harsh weather, and very basic living arrangements.
