The Job responsibilities:
The OCCUPATIONA HEALTH AND SAFETY SPECIALIST is in charge of developing and implementing comprehensive safety and environmental protection strategies within a company, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations, conducting risk assessments, investigating incidents, and providing employee training to ensure a safe working environment across all operations.
The Key Responsibilities:
- To conduct routine workplace inspections to detect potential hazards and safety issues.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments to prioritize hazards and identify effective control methods.
- To analyze incident data to discover trends and take preventive action.
- Create and maintain comprehensive HSE policies, procedures, and work instructions that are compliant with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure good communication and training of HSE policies for all staff.
- Audits and inspections are conducted on a regular basis to ensure compliance with HSE policies.
- All workplace events, near misses, and accidents should be investigated as soon as possible to uncover their core causes.
- Create detailed incident reports that include corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
- To analyze trends in incident data to discover opportunities for improvement.
- To monitor the environmental impact of operations to ensure that they comply with environmental requirements.
- To manage garbage disposal and ensure that hazardous materials are handled properly.
- To conduct environmental audits and assessments to discover opportunities for improvement.
- Create and deliver HSE training programs for personnel at various levels, including as safety orientations, refresher courses, and specialized training on specific hazards.
- Encourage employee engagement and the reporting of issues to foster a safe culture inside the firm.
- Create and manage emergency response plans, which include protocols for evacuation, first aid, and spill containment.
- Regular emergency drills and training exercises are recommended to ensure preparedness.
THE REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering/Science.
- ISO, OSHA, and NEBOSH certified technical courses.
- +12 years of experience.
- The knowledge and professional experience with the African Development Bank will be advantageous.
- A thorough awareness of applicable HSE rules, regulations, and standards.
- The excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for identifying and mitigating hazards.
- Effective staff training and engagement require strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Capability to conduct extensive investigations and produce detailed reports.
- An experience with conducting safety audits and inspections.
The Education and Experience Requirements:
- Education: A master’s degree is required, and there is no upper limit.
- Experience: No less than 12 years.
