THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
- To oversee the administration of the Patents Act (Cap 217) R.E. 2002 and Regulations.
- To advise the Director of Industrial Property (Deputy Registrar) on patent-related concerns.
- Advise on revisions to patent-related laws and regulations.
- Review and handle patent grant applications, as well as issue the necessary certificates.
- To assess and recommend for approval the processing of national patents, industrial designs, and applications filed via regional and international procedures.
- To oversee the administration of post-grant operations such that maximum compliance is achieved.
- To oversee international projects and interactions pertaining to patents.
- To collaborate with the National Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH), higher education institutions, and research and development organizations to promote innovation, science, and technology, as well as the protection and commercialization of research findings.
- To manage participation in international fora on patent issues and ensuring national commitments are met.
- Manage patent records and guarantee that information is available to the public.
- To increase the number of filed patents, create and conduct awareness-raising campaigns on the methods, standards, and requirements for patent applications.
- To undertake any other duties as given by the supervisor.
The Qualifications and Experience:
Holder of a Master’s degree in one of the following fields: Economics, Law, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Statistics, International Trade, Economics and Finance, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Business Administration, or Commerce in either Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution. The Master’s Degree must be tied to the Bachelor’s Degree. Must have at least eight (8) years of work experience in a comparable field, with a Senior level minimum.
THE REMUNERATION: As per the BRELA Salary Scale.
