Work location: Zanzibar, Tanzania

Karibu Tanzania Organization (KTO)

About the Karibu Tanzania Organization (KTO):

The Karibu Tanzania Organization (KTO) is a vibrant national non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to promoting education and community development in Tanzania. As an umbrella organization, KTO represents all 55 Folk Development Colleges (FDCs) that promote Folk and Adult Education, Community Development, and Vocational Training.

The KTO, founded in the 1990s as a collaboration between Tanzanian Folk Development Colleges (FDCs) and Swedish Folk High Schools, represents a dedication to global solidarity. Our work brings together FDC principals, staff members, participants, and local communities, building a strong national network that promotes education, skill development, and social change.

The KTO works closely with the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology (MoEST), other government ministries, and national and international partners. As part of our strategic expansion, we are extending our reach to Zanzibar, tackling high dropout rates and a lack of accessible vocational education for youth. KTO’s introduction of the Folk Development College concept in Zanzibar aims to provide vocational training and education suited to the requirements of the local communities.
