Concerning the Karibu Tanzania Organization (KTO):

The Karibu Tanzania Organization (KTO) is a vibrant non-governmental organization (NGO) at the national level that works to promote community development and education throughout Tanzania. KTO is an umbrella organization that promotes community development, vocational training, and folk and adult education on behalf of all 55 Folk Development Colleges (FDCs).

KTO was founded in the 1990s as a result of cooperation between Swedish Folk High Schools and Tanzanian FDCs, and it is based on a dedication to international solidarity. Through our work, FDC principals, employees, participants, and local communities are connected, creating a robust national network that promotes social change, education, and skill development.

KTO works together with national and international partners, various government ministries, and the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology (MoEST). We are expanding our influence to Zanzibar as part of our strategic expansion, tackling the country’s high dropout rates and dearth of easily available vocational education for youth. KTO hopes to provide education and vocational training that is suited to the requirements of the community by implementing the FDC model in Zanzibar.
