Job Overview:

The RTI International is the major implementer of the USAID Jifunze Uelewe project, which aims to sustainably improve literacy and numeracy outcomes for “all learners” from pre-primary to Standard 4 in five Tanzanian areas. For the purposes of this program, “all learners” includes, but is not limited to, marginalized and vulnerable girls and boys, learners with disabilities, minority and linguistic minority groups, urban and rural learners, students affected by crisis or conflict, and those living in poverty.

 

 

Summary of the job:

At the regional level, the School and Community Inclusive Education Specialist is in charge of developing GoT counterparts’ capacity to organize and implement inclusion and community engagement initiatives.

  • The Regional Lead for Outcome 3: Increased community support for safe and inclusive learning environments (both within and outside of schools).
  • Collaborate with the Teaching and Learning Specialist (TLS) to increase the ability of Regional and Local Government Authority (LGA) staff to support classroom-based inclusion activities, such as training, teacher support, and materials.
  • In partnership with the Communication Specialist, the TLS and MEL officer train Regional and LGA staff to document and communicate program accomplishments, lessons learned, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with the TLS, MEL officer, and Regional and LGA education offices to collect and share learning data and best practices to help shape the program.
  • Collaborate with Grants Under Contract implementing CSOs to help PTPs and CEMs establish and implement Community Action Plans that foster safe and inclusive learning environments.
  • To coordinate school-based hearing and vision screenings, as well as referrals to support and services.
  • Work with the Teaching and Learning Specialist (TLS) to increase the capacity of Regional and Local Government Authority (LGA) staff to facilitate after-school reading programs, including materials.
  • Facilitate Ubongo’s supply of reading content to communities in partnership with the TLS, as well as regional and local government offices.
  • Increase the capacity of Regional and LGA staff to establish long-term community support strategies for safe and inclusive schools, using Parent Teacher Partnership (PTP) action plans that incorporate welcoming school themes. Where appropriate, assist eKitabu with special needs schools.

 

 

 

Job Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or a similar discipline, with ten years of experience in inclusive education and/or community engagement. Alternatively, a master’s degree with six years of experience.
  • Understanding/ experience coordinating and facilitating significant donor-funded grants and/or contracts (for bilateral or multilateral donors).
  • Work experience to promote an inclusive learning environment through special needs teaching, inclusive education, and/or community mobilization and capacity building for better educational outcomes.
  • An experience with early grade reading, writing, and math programs is preferred.
  • The Computer abilities and knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Fluent in both English and Kiswahili.
