About us:

Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce (TWCC) – www.twcc-tz.org – is an important organization that brings together women and young entrepreneurs from across Tanzania. TWCC, founded in December 2005, serves as an apex and umbrella institution for sectoral Business Women Associations, Companies, Cooperatives, Groups, and Sole Proprietors. TWCC now has over 15,000 members and serves over 1 million women from all sectors of the economy through 27 Regional Chapters in Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar. It has 14 Women Sectoral Associations and 11 Platforms for Women in Cross-Border Trade.

The main goal of TWCC is to bring together young and female entrepreneurs, particularly those in the unorganized sector, in order to support the formalization and expansion of businesses. By providing them with the tools and resources they need, TWCC works to reduce poverty among women through capacity-building projects and mentorship programs. The TWCC works collaboratively with organizations in the public and private sectors to promote laws that are beneficial to the growth of women-owned businesses.

Summary of Work:

The project accountant is in charge of assisting with the financial administration of the several TWCC projects that are being carried out. The position include keeping up-to-date financial records, keeping an eye on budgets, and making sure that donor requirements and internal regulations are followed.

 

 

The Duties and Responsibilities:

The Financial Management Support:

  • Assist in creating financial statements, project budgets, and reports.
    Analyze all project expenses and provide comments.
  • Record financial transactions using accounting software to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Track project-related expenses to ensure that they are in line with approved budgets.
  • Assist the Finance Manager with processing invoices, receipts, and payment vouchers.

 

Budget Management and Reporting:

  • Assist in creating monthly financial reports for the Finance Manager to evaluate.
  • Monitor project finances to prevent overspending and guarantee adequate fund allocation.
  • Participate in the compilation of budget reports for management.

 

Compliance and Audit:

  • Ensure that financial transactions follow internal regulations and donor guidelines.
  • Identify anomalies in financial records and recommend corrective steps.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by creating necessary paperwork.

 

The Documentation and Recordkeeping:

  • Ensure the timely preparation and submission of financial reports to appropriate entities.
  • Assist with filing and safeguarding supporting papers for all payments and financial transactions.
  • Keep precise records of all project-related financial transactions.

Management of Asset:

  • Perform periodic asset verification exercises.
  • Assist with asset security, tagging, and tracking.
  • Implement asset management practices, such as documenting additions, disposals, and modifications to property and equipment.
  • Maintain a complete asset register.

 

 

Collaboration and Support:

  • Support (Help) the finance team with end-of-month reconciliations and financial closing procedures.
  • Collaborate with all departments to achieve financial alignment with project objectives.
  • Assist with petty cash management and keeping accurate records.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management.

Education (Academic) and professional qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a comparable field.

 

Job Experience:

  • Five (5) years’ experience with project accounting and budgeting.
  • A thorough understanding of accounting principles and reporting.
  • CPA certification is an added benefit.
  • Experience with contemporary accounting software.

 

The Technical skills and behavioral competencies:

  • Capability to manage project finances and provide donor reports.
  • Knowledge of the finance industry, project accounting, and budgeting.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and the capacity to learn quickly.
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken Swahili and English.
  • Advanced proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and Excel, including pivot tables.
  • Knowledge of project budgeting and accounting standards.
  • Honesty, responsibility, and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical reasoning, collaboration, and team spirit.
