THE BACKGROUND:
Farm Radio International (FRI) is a Canadian organization that has been working since 1979 to satisfy the needs of rural and underprivileged people in Sub-Saharan Africa through the use of radio, mobile phones, and other information and communication technologies. We collaborate with over 1,300 radio organizations in over 37 African nations to combat poverty and food insecurity. With the help of FRI resources and training, our broadcasting partners provide practical, relevant, and timely information to tens of millions of farmers, especially female farmers. We also collaborate with a variety of partners to deliver radio initiatives that address specific development concerns and community needs.

THE BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT:
From January to December 2025, Farm Radio International (FRI) will implement the Interactive Radio Enhancing Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Nutrition among Adolescents program in Tanzania’s Tabora region. This effort is part of the Building Rights for Improved Girl’s Health in Tanzania (BRIGHT) project, which aims to empower adolescents and stakeholders by delivering essential SRH and nutrition information.
The FRI will cooperate with BRIGHT stakeholders to develop interactive radio programs, such as Participatory Radio Series (PRS) and Drama Plus (Drama+), which will be broadcast in Swahili by partner stations in the Tabora region. These initiatives will target teenagers aged 10 to 19 years old, as well as parents, support providers, and community leaders.
The project’s goals are to raise knowledge of SRH and nutrition rights, promote positive behaviors and attitudes toward adolescents’ health and social well-being, gain support from community leaders, and improve stakeholder participation on these topics.
THE JOB OVERVIEW:
The Project Officer will be in charge of ensuring the effective implementation, reporting, monitoring, and evaluation of project activities and tasks allocated to achieve the aims and objectives of FRI projects.
The Project Officer reports to the Country Program Coordinator and works with all FRI and host agency personnel in the Country office.
THE KEY AREA OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project Implementation (50%).
- Manage project implementation, including activity planning, roll-out, and monitoring, to guarantee timely and cost-effective completion.
- To collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish project objectives and activities, handle potential concerns, and uphold project quality standards.
- An actively contribute to and support project events such as meetings, workshops, and training.
- Lead the planning, formation, and follow-up of community listening groups throughout the project region.
- To coordinate report-writing processes to consolidate project operations, findings, conclusions, and lessons learned.
- To ensure the achievement of gender equality and inclusion goals by providing comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and nutrition information to foster positive behaviors and attitudes toward adolescents’ health and social well-being throughout the project cycle.
- Perform additional program administration responsibilities as needed.
Monitoring and evaluation of projects for 30%.
- Monitor project and community listening group activities on a weekly or biweekly basis.
- To coordinate and/or support pre-broadcast research initiatives such as formative research, baseline surveys, and fast assessments.
- To support summative, outcome, and impact assessment activities for this project and others as assigned.
- To contribute to the development of various knowledge-sharing products for diverse audiences.
- To contribute to the internal exchange of learning and evidence of best practices, allowing Farm Radio country program staff to enhance their approaches and outcomes.
Communications and Radio Networking (20%)
- To contribute to the project’s social media accounts with regular updates.
- To document and share with the FRI communication team project success stories, best practices, and lessons learned.
- To facilitate WhatsApp group exchanges between youth beneficiaries and conversations with expert guests.
- To promote FRI resources to radio partners by WhatsApp, telephone, and other channels.
- Encourage underprivileged radio broadcasters to use FRI resources to improve their radio programs.
- To support the creation of radio resources.
THE QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- The candidate/ applicant must have a first degree in communication, community development, nutrition, gender, development studies, project management, or a similar discipline.
- At least three years of entry-level experience working with non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
- The practical experience in radio programming is advantageous.
- The experience providing on-the-job training to radio broadcasters will be an advantage.
- The previous experience in communication for growth is advantageous.
- The excellent interpersonal communication and time-management abilities.
- The ability to operate under pressure and generate high-quality results within a limited time frame.
- A fluency in both written and spoken English and Swahili.
- A detailed knowledge, understanding, and abilities in social behavior change, project management, and Monitoring Evaluation Research and Learning (MERL).
- The excellent report-writing skills.
