THE BACKGROUND:

PATH’s Diabetes CarePak Project employs human-centered design to create a comprehensive collection of diabetes supplies that enable safe insulin delivery and diabetic self-care.

The Phase 3 of the Diabetes CarePak project is a mixed-methods, longitudinal randomized control study that will investigate the health impact and cost-effectiveness of Diabetes CarePak use by People Living with Diabetes (PLWD) in sixteen Tanzanian districts. The participating districts are: Mbarali DC, Chunya DC, Kyela DC, Mbeya DC (Mbalizi), Mafinga DC, Iringa MC, Vwawa DC, Kwimba DC, Misungwi DC, Chato DC, Tarime TC, Maswa DC, Bariadi TC, Tabora MC, Shinyanga MC, and Songea MC. The trial is expected to run for six months, commencing in July 2024.

The study will include up to 500 individual interviews with PLWD, half of whom will be randomly assigned to receive the CarePak monthly for six months (intervention arm), and half of whom will not receive the kits (control arm) but will continue to receive standard medical care for their condition. Individual interviews will consist of qualitative and quantitative questions, as well as a quality-of-life questionnaire. PATH will offer a full description of the study methods (“Standard Operating Procedures” or SOP), together with all data collection instruments and directions for submitting data to PATH.

 

 

 

THE MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Examine research questionnaires and standard operating procedures.
  • To master and exhibit excellent interviewing techniques.
  • To ensure voluntary participation, obtain and document informed permission from eligible research participants in accordance with the study protocol and SOPs.
  • To conduct audio-recorded interviews with people with disabilities in person, utilizing tablet computers.
  • To interview in English and Swahili, using the same wording and question order as in the survey.
  • To maintain respect and confidentiality during interviews.
  • To follow confidentiality protocols as outlined in the protocol, training, and research SOPs.
  • Every day, survey data is uploaded from the tablet to the study server. Report any uploading issues to the PATH Study Coordinator.
  • To translate and transcribe audio recordings from in-depth interviews.
  • To inform the PATH Study Coordinator and participants of any delays or changes in the program.
  • To act responsibly, treat participants and the community with respect, and show honesty at work.
  • Carry out/ perform other study-related tasks as needed.

 

The Period of Implementation:

The Research Assistant is anticipated to provide services for one month, from January 2025 to February 2025.

 

The Minimum qualifications:

  • A Diploma in nursing, clinical medicine, social work, statistics, or a related profession.
  • The experience doing qualitative interviews.
  • The experience collecting data for research investigations.
  • The experience conducting surveys on tablet computers or mobile phones utilizing Kobo Collect, ODK Collect, and Survey CTO (or being comfortable using mobile devices).
  • A fluent in Swahili and English.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and the ability to adhere to study-specific procedures and rules consistently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities, People-oriented, Works effectively for both men and women of all ages.
  • A friendly demeanor and the capacity to build rapport.
  • He/ She must be available for the full training time as well as any scheduled data collection periods.
  • The applicants must be inhabitants of the districts they are applying for.
