Work location: Dar es Salaam

The duration of project: January 2025 – January 2027 (24 months)

Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS)

The Project Summary:

The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences is seeking applications from qualified Tanzanians for positions in the research project Strengthening Post-Crash Care in Tanzania (SPRINT project), which is funded by a World Health Organization Research grant to the Department of Emergency Medicine. The SPRINT research project aims to improve post-crash treatment and outcomes for victims of road traffic injuries (RTIs) by increasing first responders’ and hospitals’ ability to care for these patients. The project will implement and test the impact of six components of the World Health Organization (WHO) emergency care toolkit in pre-hospital and hospital settings in Tanzania, along the important A7 highway that connects the country’s north and south.

The project hopes that by improving post-crash care, it will reduce avoidable mortality, prevent lifelong disabilities, and improve the outcomes of RTI victims. In addition to improving patient outcomes, the use of standardized trauma forms will help to develop a national trauma registry, which will facilitate assessment, quality improvement strategies, and provide evidence for policymakers and other relevant authorities to make decisions.
