An Overview:
The goal of the five-year (2022–2027) USAID Afya Yangu–RMNCAH initiative is to increase demand for and utilization of high-quality integrated RMNCAH services, especially among Tanzanian women and youth. The initiative is being carried out in eleven regions of Zanzibar and the Tanzanian mainland. The results of USAID Afya Yangu-RMNCAH are higher rates of youth and women’s use, demand for, and access to high-quality integrated RMNCAH and vaccination services.
With the goal of leveraging study findings to concentrate and guide project interventions and improve vaccination services and program outcomes in project supported regions, the project has also included implementation research and program learning to enable it to carry out its mandate.
In order to support field data collecting for a study to be done in the USAID Afya Yangu – RMNCAH project, which supported 10 regions of Tanzania’s mainland as well as Zanzibar (both Unguja and Pemba) in a total of 11 selected councils, Jhpiego is seeking the services of individual research assistants.
Study Title: “Assessment of the efficacy of the Periodic Intensification of Routine vaccination (PIRI) and Reach Every Child (REC) techniques for enhancing vaccination services in the USAID Afya Yangu – RMNCAH Project Supported Regions
Work statement:
Jhpiego is looking for volunteers to help with research projects involving the use of a sampling program to sample households for household surveys.
- To determine whether households have eligible participants, a survey of every household in the designated enumeration areas (EAs) will be conducted (mapping).
- The right number of households with participants who meet the eligibility requirements will be chosen to take part in the study using a sampling program.
- We will interview households with kids between the ages of eleven and thirty-five months.
In particular, the Research Assistants will be in charge of asking parents or other caregivers in the chosen home for permission before beginning any of the many parts of data collecting utilizing electronic devices (tablets).

Location: Tabora, Mwanza, Mara, Shinyanga, Simiyu, Geita, Dodoma, Dar es Salaam. Unguja, Pemba, Manyara, Katavi, and Manyara
Length (Duration) of Engagement:
This work will be done for a maximum of 35 calendar days, from September 1, 2024, to October 5, 2024.
The closing date of this position is August 20, 2024.
Accountabilities / Responsibilities:
Professionalism and adherence to research ethics and protocols, as outlined in the study field implementation handbook, are mandatory for the Data Collector. He or she will be well-versed in the study protocol and possess a comprehensive comprehension of the procedures involved in data collecting, security, storage, and transfer.
The study protocol and data integrity will be closely followed by the data collector. The roles consist of.
- Assist the research field supervisors in closely mapping households and choosing which households to interview.
- Use tablets to conduct all survey activities, such as obtaining consent and interviewing participants, in compliance with the guidelines provided.
- Maintain the tablet in a safe and secure manner, making ensuring it is fully charged as required and at all times when collecting data.
- Must be able to accurately and reasonably quickly finish interviews on the tablets.
- Oversee the temporary storage of all research data.
- Gather, arrange, and distribute digital data files in accordance with the SOP for data collection.
- Assuming accountability for the security and upkeep of all study aids and equipment under his or her supervision.
- Notify the field supervisor of any obstacles that could hinder the process of gathering data.
- Participate in the daily feedback session as directed and scheduled by the supervisor or team leader.
- Carry out any other tasks connected to studying that your supervisor assigns you.
Specific Tasks:
- Map the households in the chosen villages/Mitaa.
- Recruit study participants, obtain their consent, and record consents in accordance with the filed implementation instructions.
- Conduct structured questionnaire-based household interviews with about 6768 study participants.
- Fill out customer exit questionnaires at the study health institutions that have been chosen.
- Hold interviews with key informants and focus groups.
Essential Requirements:
- Experience conducting residential surveys as part of research.
- Proficient and quick with computers, including the ability to gather data with a smartphone.
- The capacity to use portable tablets to conduct high-quality interviews.
- Having computer skills is a bonus.
- The capacity to read and write in Swahili and English.
Furthermore, the Data Collector ought to:
- Availability for training research assistants is required.
- Possess the ability to dedicate oneself fully for thirty (30) days.
- Be adaptable and ready to put in more time at work.
- Be prepared to operate remotely, be devoted to the task, and make frequent trips to far-off places.
- Possess self-organization skills, the ability to function without constant supervision, and the ability to operate successfully in a team.
- Participated in comparable activities no more than two years prior.
- Be prepared to take daily compensation in exchange for finishing the given duties to the necessary standards and quality.
