The Kafika House is looking for a compassionate and dedicated Part-Time Social Worker to provide supportive counseling to children with medically curable disabilities and their families. The ideal applicant would advocate for a holistic approach to care, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the well-being of our patients.

 

 

About Us:

The Kafika House is an international non-governmental organization based in Arusha with a facility in Karatu, Tanzania. We run the Kafika House program, which provides a safe and nurturing environment for children receiving pre- and post-operative care and rehabilitation for surgically treatable disabilities. These include cleft lip and palate, clubfoot, skeletal fluorosis, burn scar contractures, and osteomyelitis. Our objective is that no kid in Tanzania should live with a treatable impairment.

 

 

The Role Responsibilities:

  • To maintain up-to-date patient records in accordance with government regulations and make timely reports to the facility coordinator.
  • To provide patients and their families with helpful and sympathetic counseling as they navigate their treatment journey.
  • To collaborate with therapists, nurses, mental health specialists, and other healthcare providers to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • To support the use of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) methods to monitor patient progress and program performance.
  • To perform any other duties given by the Facility Coordinator.

 

 

The Education, skills, and experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree or advanced diploma in social work, sociology, community development, or a comparable discipline from a reputable institution. Registration with the Tanzania Association of Social Workers (TASWO) provides an additional benefit.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience in case management, counseling, or community outreach, preferably in a hospital, non-governmental organization, or social welfare context. Experience working with children, people with disabilities, or vulnerable populations is extremely desirable.
  • A strong communication abilities and a caring attitude.
  • The ability to operate well in a team and in a multidisciplinary healthcare setting.
  • The time management and organisational abilities.
  • A reliable, trustworthy, and capable of handling sensitive patient data.
  • Fluent in Swahili and English (both written and spoken).
  • A basic computer literacy (including MS Word, Excel, and report writing skills).
