The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental, non-profit organization that was founded in 1956 and offers direct aid to conflict-affected populations in over 40 countries worldwide, including refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs), and host communities. Since the start of the Burundi refugee crisis in 2015, DRC has been carrying out emergency response initiatives in Tanzania in three camps for refugees in the Kigoma Region near the Burundian border. Sectors including Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM), Protection (CBP, PSN, GBV, CP, and Legal), Shelter and Infrastructure, and Economic Recovery are all part of DRC’s integrated projects for refugees, asylum seekers, and host communities.

 

 

The overall purpose of the role:

Day-to-day Warehouse Management. To guarantee that the supply chain function runs smoothly and meets program needs in accordance with the DRC Operations Handbook, donor and government norms and regulations.

 

The main responsibilities:

The Warehouse Management:

  • Ensure full compliance with warehouse/inventory management.
  • To receive, storing, and sending items in accordance with the DRC warehouse management policy.
  • Make sure that all warehouse premises meet safety and security standards.
  • On a daily basis, supervise warehouse cleanliness and keep everything in good order and tidy.
  • To collaborate closely with procurement partners to receive all incoming items and organize the necessary storage space, loaders, and paperwork before the commodities arrive.
  • Physical inventory checks are conducted on a monthly or regular basis in accordance with DRC and donor criteria.
  • To manage warehouse operations and general storage of facilities and consignments.
  • To provide weekly and monthly warehouse stock reports to the Supply Chain Team Leader – Logistics.
  • To provide timely information on goods that must be disposed of, including unused or expired commodities (broken, expired, etc.).
  • Following up on deliveries and coordinating with other warehouse colleagues to ensure that diverse items and services are delivered to different places.
  • To make prior communication and arrangements for shipping products from one area to another.
  • Make follow up on getting camp entrance permits for the Nduta and Nyarugusu refugee camps. This includes working with the Government Authority, DRC industry leaders, and other supply chain colleagues to ensure that camp admission permits are issued on time.
  • To provide timely incident reports on warehouse facilities or consignments held in the warehouse in the event of any discrepancies.
  • To provide information to Supply Chain professionals in charge of asset management in the event that a new asset or equipment is purchased and needs to be received, stored, or dispatched.
  • To secure all warehouse documents in accordance with the DRC filling SOP.
  • To support the Supply Chain Team Leader in providing correct, up-to-date documentation in the event of an audit.
  • To adhere completely to the DRC code of conduct.
  • Carry out/ perform additional duties as assigned.

 

The Representation:

  • Develop and maintain good relationships with external stakeholders involved in the supply chain. This comprises vendors, relevant governmental entities, UNHCR, and its logistical partner.

 

 

The Essential Experience:

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in Supply Chain in a humanitarian setting.
  • The knowledge of supply chain management, specifically logistics.
  • Understanding/ knowledge of important donor rules and compliance procedures, such as UNHCR and DANIDA.
  • The experience with DRC Dynamics or a comparable ERP system.
  • Complete professional proficiency in English and Kiswahili.
  • Superb/ excellent communication abilities, both oral and written.

Required Education:

  •  A bachelor’s degree or diploma in a related sector, as well as field experience.
  • A Certificate of Humanitarian Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

  • Proficient in both written and spoken English, as well as Swahili.
