Job Title: Sustainable Agriculture Intern – Soil Health and Organic Waste Management

This work entails providing hands-on assistance for sustainable agriculture techniques, with a focus on organic waste management and composting. The intern will help with the processing, management, and quality analysis of compost products to improve soil health for agricultural purposes. Monitoring compost production, assisting with data gathering, testing soil amendments, and supporting farmer education campaigns on the benefits and application of organic compost are among the primary roles.

 

 

The Key responsibilities:

  • To assist with the daily intake, sorting, and preparation of organic waste.
  • To help oversee the composting process to ensure high-quality compost.
  • To maintain site cleanliness and safety by ensuring that all protocols are followed.
  • Perform quality checks and aid with data recording during daily activities.
  • To manage and monitor composting processes, such as temperature, moisture, and aeration schedules.
  • Participate in soil testing and quality assessment of compost products.
  • Collaborate closely with the agriculture team to advance soil health solutions.
  • To provide instructional support to farmers and other stakeholders about the benefits of utilizing organic compost.
  • To document and analyze compost production statistics to aid in ongoing development.

 

 

 

The Qualifications:

  • Has earned a Bachelor’s degree in any area. Preferably environmental.
  • Interest in waste management, composting, agriculture, and other related topics.
  • Basic computer abilities and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Physically able to conduct hands-on work.
  • Willing and able to relocate to Mkuranga or the surrounding areas.
