Function goal and primary responsibilities:
Goal of the role:
The manager is responsible for overseeing all of the company’s tax matters. He will be in charge of overseeing all tax compliance, making sure that taxes are paid on time, and lowering the risk that businesses would incur fines and interest owing to their failure to comply with Tanzania’s applicable tax rules. Additionally, he will ensure that tax returns are accurately completed and timely submitted to the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Zanzibar Revenue Authority (ZRA), and other pertinent revenue authorities.
Along with advising management on all tax-related matters and new provisions imposed by the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania that have an impact on tax-related matters, the manager will also need to put policies and procedures into place in order to manage the company’s tax position effectively at any given point during the month and annually. The management must establish positive working relationships with tax assessors, tax advisors, and external auditors from the Authorities (TRA & ZRA).
Principal Accountabilities:
- Encourage the tax function to automate different tax operations.
- Create and manage the financial models that are used to calculate and pay taxes.
- Put policies in place to control the possibility of fines and interest arising from noncompliance.
- Create, evaluate, and put into practice tax management guidelines.
- Examine all tax computations, payments, and returns.
- Oversee connections with tax attorneys, tax consultants, and TRA.
- Reconcile the monthly turnover of excise taxes and VAT.
- Comply with the specified guidelines and deadlines when completing the balance sheet reconciliation.
- Oversee the timely filing of tax reports and monthly group schedules.
- Monthly accounting for taxes (including deferred tax accounting and current tax provisioning)
- Advocate for personnel actions, including hiring, promoting, disciplining, and training new hires.
- Conduct routine tax health checks to find potential risks and possibilities.
- Communicate with the Group Tax often.
Professional credentials, knowledge, experience, and core skills:
- Five years minimum of experience in a tax and financial capacity.
- Graduate of a college or university with a degree in business administration, accounting, or finance.
- A CPA (T), ACCA, or particular tax qualification will be beneficial.
- Experience in the telecommunications sector is beneficial.
- Comprehensive knowledge of tax function theory.
- Strong computer literacy, particularly advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Financial systems, practices, and policies.
- To be familiar with the most recent laws pertaining to the tax function.
- Strong interpersonal abilities and a customer-focused mindset.
