Maternity Africa is a non-profit organization with a Christian foundation that aims to cure fistulas and provide high-quality maternity care to all vulnerable women in Tanzania. Maternity Africa is dedicated to its purpose of promoting safe birthing and showing everyone, regardless of color, religion, or ethnicity, the love and compassion of Christ.
Currently, Maternity Africa runs out of the Kivulini Maternity Center in northern Tanzania, which is outside of Arusha.
Concerning the Role:
This is a paid volunteer role that will last one to three months.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is compassionate, a highly trained midwife, values lifelong learning and professional growth, and enjoys working with patients!
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Make sure that all daily clinical tasks in the clinic, wards, delivery suite, and theaters are completed as assigned and necessary.
- Respect the systems for data collection and recording, and make sure that the clinical area’s correctness is maintained, including the ability to complete MTUHA and other register books.
- Make sure that medical waste is disposed of properly.
- Give prenatal and postnatal mothers and families health education guidance, including family planning counseling and assistance.
- Perform both regular and unusual deliveries, such as breech and twin deliveries, on your own.
- Extra care for high-risk patients, such as twins and those with pre-eclampsia/eclampsia BOH.
- Assisted births should be made in an emergency.
- Practically handle obstetric emergencies by managing PPH, administering magnesium sulfate, and treating shoulder dystocia.
- Prepared to work in all clinical departments during rotations.
- As assigned by the management team, assume any additional duties and responsibilities that come up during the regular operations of the center.
Important Requirements, Details, and Experience:
- A diploma in midwifery or nursing and midwifery is the minimal requirement.
- Must have a valid practice license and be registered with the Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council.
- Knowledgeable about Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Good knowledge of the rules, regulations, ethics, and guiding practices of the Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council.
- Show that you understand the different labor ward guidelines, such as how to handle risky medicines, how to administer oxytocin, and how to use PMTCT-1. Having training in CeMOC or BmoC will be beneficial.
- Knowledgeable about 5-S and the IPC.
- Good-natured, cooperative, and capable of working with little direction.
