More than 3,500 students receive training from the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC)-owned Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS). Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Medicine (MMed), Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Science in Pediatric Nursing (MSc.PN), Master of Science in Clinical Microbiology and Diagnostic Molecular Biology (MSc. CMDMB), Master of Science in Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MSc. EB), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm), Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education (BSc.NED), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc.N), Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences (BMLS), Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy (BSc.MIR), Diploma in Pharmaceutical Sciences (DPS), Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences (DMLS), and Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography (DDR) are among the programs currently offered by CUHAS. To fill the following roles, CUHAS and Smart Discharges Project are seeking highly skilled and driven individuals:

Workstation: Sekour Toure Regional Referral Hospital and Bugando Medical Centre (BMC).

Project Title: The Smart Discharges Project.

Junior Research Nurse is the position.

Duration: 1 year, with the option to extend based on performance.

Posts: Four (4).

Reports to:  The Pediatric Ward In-Charge or the Research Nurse Supervisor.

Interacting with: Clinicians, Project Staff, Hospital Managers, Patients/Clients.

 

OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB:
The “Smart Discharge” study will be conducted by the Junior Research Nurse. Upon admission to the ward, eligible children are identified and approached, participants are consented to and enrolled, blood, saliva, and urine samples are collected, and a survey of the child and caregiver is completed. The project team, situated in Bugando Medical Center, and a site-based research team will collaborate closely with the junior research nurse.

COMPETENCIES AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • The Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC)-registered Certificate or Diploma in Nursing is the minimal qualification.
  • Must possess a current license to practice.
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with patients, physicians, and other team members in general practice.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, understanding of nursing practices, trends, and concepts, and awareness of care quality.
  • Preserving a high standard of professionalism.
  • Proficient in the English language, both written and oral.
  • Good Clinical Practice Certificate.

    SPECIFIC DUTY OBLIGATIONS:

  • At research locations, ascertain the eligibility of patients.
  • Consent from research subjects.
  • Gathering all necessary data while a patient is in the hospital.
  • Guaranteeing the security and privacy of the information gathered.
  • Gather specimens, carry out the necessary lab testing, and, if required, transport the specimens to the lab for the necessary lab testing.
  • Obtaining test results from the lab when required.
  • Collaborate closely with the child’s clinical team and the Smart Discharges research nurse team to guarantee smooth clinical and research operations, correct data exchange, and consistent quality in data collection.
  • Maintaining a high standard of professionalism.
  • Collaborate closely with the PI and study coordinator to guarantee that all data collected is accurate and comprehensive.

  • Any more tasks that are allocated.

TECHNOLOGY/SYSTEMS:

Proficiency with mobile devices, email, Phone4OXR, Microsoft Word & Excel, and the PARA App.
